Fishing!

Hey Chris! I know you can appreciate this!

Fishing season is coming to a close, but there is more to come

Fishing season is certainly winding down, but the clock still ticks for some diehard devotees. I’ll try to keep everyone informed on what’s happening out there on the water for the next few Fridays.

In fact, some of the best striped bass fishing of the entire year should be directly ahead of us. That is, if those hulking ocean-running fish make that right turn into the Chesapeake Bay on their way down to the wintering grounds off the Carolinas.

Man, I'd sure like to land one of those monsters.

As for our smaller waters around here, the fall feed for the resident bass is already on. Anthony Hancock, assistant manager at Gilbert Run Park, says the water is up there after the recent rains, the temperatures relatively pleasant and the trees beautiful. Besides all that, the bass are active and hitting shallow crankbaits in shad and crawfish patterns, soft plastics such as tubes or crawfish imitators, double willow bladed spinnerbaits and even top-water baits.

It's been tough during the drought, but now that we've had some rain, the water levels are back up.

The smallmouth fishing from Edwards Ferry to Lander has been ‘‘absolutely great.” In the tidal sections of the Potomac, these pros have been doing well on Mizmo tubes, Case Magic Stiks, Brush Baby crankbaits and Big Mouth spinnerbaits. Some of their favorite areas this past week were Fox Ferry Point, Belle Haven Cove and the entire Woodrow Wilson Bridge vicinity.

They also recommend the Mattawoman, from Smallwood to the mouth.

I'm thinking about putting my canoe into the Mattawoman tomorrow after these dadgum winds from the hurricane die down.

Maybe next weekend......

Just a little fishing story.  I hope everyone will like.

A short time ago I was attending an annual event, a gathering, if you will.

Picture it:  I was conversing with friends and family, talking of recent past events. It was a beautiful day, sun shining, a gentle warm breeze and just a hint of fall in the air. Just then from the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse. Someone approaching,  dressed in the usual fishing attire: hat, vest and hip waders. He approached and introduced himself. General fishing stories commenced.  The older more experienced fisherman began methodically questioning my fishing experience, listening to every answer and placing them in his memory bank for future reference. I answered every question as best I could and with the utmost respect to the older more experienced fisherman.  I told him of where I had been fishing, what bait I had used, how many I caught, and how big the catch of the day was.  The conversation finally came to an end with a hearty handshake and good luck wish for the future.
As the old man walked away, I said to myself,  Does he really think I would tell him the real location of my fishing hole much less the bait I used.  I laughed at the possibilities.  Wonder if he will actually go the the hole I told him?
A few weeks later I overheard some customers at a local bait shop laughing and telling of this experienced fisherman going all out, taking friends, the finest rod/reel combo, the best bait money could buy and trotting off to the best fishing hole around.. Gonna catch the big one. The biggest one yet, only to get to this  fishing hole and find it empty.. No fish to be found. An empty barrel.  He was devastated, embarrassed and then realised he had been given wrong information by this young inexperienced fisherman.

Of course he made every excuse under the sun as to why there was no fish.

I laugh every time I think of this gentleman..

He just knew he was a master fisherman.

But I found him to be a Master Baiter.......... :roflmao: :roflmao: *us* *catsu*

I even told him that I had used a certain brand of peanut butter as bait.   He fell for it hook line and sinker..   Took a whole jar with him to the fishing hole. I understand from his fellow fishermen, he a a very difficult time keeping Peter Pan on the Hook.   :roflmao: :tong:

My husband is like that. He doesn't tell where the good holes are. He will tell that he caught it with a different lure than what he used also.

Now with the tournament over and a winner declared, he wants to help me and my crew in the next tournament!!
I wonder if I can trust him?

Winter fishing is quite refreshing..
The Falls Mills Fishing Club is up and running...
Although I have never used p-nut butter as bait, I think  I understand the underlying testimonial.

Bless his heart, nobody will play with the spoil sport. He tried to be in the same boat, but as I knew all along, he cannot be trusted.   He cannot decide on side or the other. He likes going from side-to-side telling tales. Tall tales at that, as to where all the fish are, what the fish are biting, and how many fish there are.  I wonder how many times he has told the tournament winner how to fish and what to fish with. It is quite apparent,  he already knows how to fish. Just because he will not listen and DO everything you tell him when you tell him.   Now thats funny.  Just plain funny. I can see that he did take my advise and not trust you with everything and plant a little foul seed along the way so he the untrusted one can spread the seed as he so graciously does.  Whose boat will he be in this time around?
