Two million order final Harry Potter
« on: July 15, 2007, 08:11:46 PM »
More than two million people have pre-ordered copies of the seventh and last Harry Potter book to ensure they are among the first to discover the boy wizard's fate.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is released on Saturday, marking the final chapter in an extraordinary publishing phenomenon.

advertisementSince the first book in the series was published in 1997, the magic of the wizarding world, Hogwarts School and Harry's battle against dark wizard Lord Voldemort have proved massively popular with children and adults alike.

Such is the anticipation around the final book that worldwide advance sales have topped two million, according to Amazon. This is well above the previous record of 1.5 million for the sixth instalment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Royal Mail has spent six months planning how to deliver 600,000 editions of the blockbuster on Saturday - that is, on average, one copy for every 43 homes across Britain.

The operation will see 180 extra trucks and an additional train service used to distribute the books from retailers' warehouses to 1,400 delivery offices across the country on Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday.

Alex Batchelor, Royal Mail's marketing director, said: "We have been working closely with retailers for more than six months to plan our Harry Potter delivery operation with military precision.

"Postmen and women across the UK will be putting in a magical effort to ensure the delivery of these books is as successful as our performance for the previous two editions of Harry Potter."

Meanwhile Asda, the supermarket chain, has accused Bloomsbury, the publisher of Harry Potter, of hiking up the recommended retail price of the final book, claiming the RRP for the first novels was much lower. Most retailers are charging just under £9, while the RRP is £17.99.

Bloomsbury defended the price. A spokesman said the first novel in 1997 was 250 pages and cost £10.99, but prices had merely risen in line with the rest of the hardback fiction market. The latest book runs to 608 pages.

This  site was mentioned in the media last week for parents to check out before allowing children to get involved with the Harry Potter books, movies, etc.  Perhaps "ole Harry" is not a good idea for kids who aren't well balanced.

Davidsonville Man Already Has Harry Potter Book
(AP) DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. The new Harry Potter book isn't scheduled to be available until Saturday, but a Davidsonville man says he already has his copy.

Jon Hopkins, 25, tells The (Baltimore) Sun that he ordered his copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"
last month from DeepDiscount.com. He received an e-mail Friday informing him the book had been shipped, and it arrived Tuesday afternoon.

The news that a hard copy of the book had been delivered ahead of the release date also surprised the publisher, Scholastic, which has spent millions of dollars to thwart leaks of the book in stores and on the Web.

I was most careful to spend every moment of time I could with my daughter and son.  They were extremely secure with in the difference between fact and fiction.  They make their own choices because I educated them and then loved and trusted them enough to allow to.  They were my gift, and I, in turn, gave them their wings.  I may not always agree, but I respect them.  In retrospect, it has proved to be a wonderful exchange.

My oldest loves it.  And he knows it is fiction.
