At first glance, the “on top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese ...” meatball arrangement may look intimidating to construct. At the least it could be a shaky proposition, with a tower of sauce-coated rounds poised to tumble down at the slightest misplacement.

In copying an appealing photograph of spaghetti pie on the cover of an Italian cooking magazine, I selected my simple crockpot meatballs and sauce recipe as the basic building material to be placed atop an easy pasta, egg and Parmesan “crust.” The good thing about the project is that everything is make-ahead.
