Book was to reveal cricket's dark side
« on: March 24, 2007, 10:46:30 AM »
THERE are fresh claims that Bob Woolmer had plans to start writing a book after the World Cup that would expose match-fixing.

"There was a feeling around that Bob was going to expose something," Barry Richards, one of South Africa's finest Test cricketers and the best man at Woolmer's wedding, told The Daily Telegraph in London.

"There is a dark side to cricket. The game got on top of it for a while but it has never really been stamped out. There is no doubt it is still there. Bob was passionate about the game. Perhaps too passionate."

Woolmer was reportedly distressed after hearing of suspicious movements in betting markets in Mumbai a month before the humiliating loss to World Cup minnow Ireland.

Woolmer had a manuscript with him in the Caribbean, but it now appears his match-fixing expose was yet to be written.
