I second the recommendations to read Schlesinger's American Presidents series and Wiesel's Holocaust.

Excellent reads for anyone who wants to expand his/her horizons.

I don't think I could bear to read Wiesel's Holocaust. Years ago I read such an account - it was so awful I cried and cried - it haunted me for years.  Libby

Sorry to hear that, Libby.

You're right. It's a tough read. But it reminds us about what the human animal is capable of doing.

Thanks. That's very sweet of you.

(I really didn't go anywhere -- computer took a major crapola all over the place, and I lost my bookmarks. Gryphon pm'd me and got me back here. Blame him.  0023*)

sounds interesting let, us know.

"A Woman In Berlin" was written by a 34 yr. old German journalist. She took notes of everything that happened to her as well as her neighbors and friends, from April to mid June 1945. They only knew that the Americans had reached the Elbe and stopped. "Our fate is rolling in from the east. My sole concern as I write these lines is my stomach. All thinking and feeling, all wishes and hopes begin with food."
Berlin hospitals estimated 95,000 to 135,000 rapes for that city.
Some of the Russian soldiers would provide food for their trouble. If he was an officer it also provided some protection from other soldiers. The most important thing was to survive.
This diary was first published in 1954 in Switzerland and disappered into obscurity. It was reissued in 2001. ( After the authors death at her request )

You probably get all the lessons by listening to him.  If you know someone in debt and struggling to get out and you think they wouldn't be offended, give them this book.  It makes total and complete sense.   The first part is dedicated to the misconceptions you think about money and credit.

They any good RC? By that I mean do you find yourself setting them aside for a few days before going back to them or do you find yourself wanting to read the next chapter first thing in the morning?

I'm finding myself muddling through the two books I'm reading and need something to capture my attention for a week.
