K, get on the next plane and we'll head down first thing in the morning. I know where the seals workout and I'm not talkin' about the critters.  *devilish*

Good grief! Here it is near the end of September and the temperature here went up to 98 - at National Airport and pretty much all around the region.

Yesterday was overcast all day, with rain on and off. We heard that another weather system was headed our way, coming up from the south, and boy, did it! I went to bed about 10 PM, but something woke me up about midnight. I could see what looked like heat lightening to the east, and low rumbles of distant thunder. Went back to bed and was getting comfortable when I heard a few raindrops on the roof. Another few minutes, and what sounded like a cloudburst hit my roof -- heavy, heavy rain, and then another sound - a roaring that got louder and louder and I thought, Oh Lord, it's a tornado! But then, as suddenly as it came, it passed, and everything was eerily quiet, and my roof was still there, so I drifted off to sleep. This morning I heard that a strong line of thunderstorms passed during the night, and there was a good bit of damage in a line from D.C. to Annapolis. The most that I saw was that all the beautifully colored leaves were now on the ground and cars.

The weather front had fatal consequences here...

WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Two people were killed Tuesday and 20 others injured following multiple crashes involving about 50 vehicles on a foggy stretch of Interstate 77 in southwestern Virginia.

I know that stretch of road well. I have relatives in N.C. (Mt. Airy) and on the Virginia side, exit 1,  and driving on I-77 there when it's foggy is really scary.

thats my standard route going to and from home in WV. Am I crazy, or did they have lighted center reflectors on that stretch at one time as an experiment?

Not that I recall. Maybe you're thinking of the mountain on I-64 just east of I-81. They have them.

That fog reminds me of an experience I had in northern California several years ago. I was tooling along in a semi on a stretch of two lane road one night when all of the sudden I was enveloped in a wall of fog. It was a terrifying experience. The fog was so thick I could only see about five feet in front of the rig and nothing to my right or left. Since I couldn't see the side of the road to pull off, (there's areas out there with no guard rail and big drop offs) I crawled along for what seemed like an eternity at about ten mph hoping no one rear ended me or I didn't run over anyone. I finally drove out of it unscathed but very shaken up. I'll never forget it, and am extra cautious in the fog.

You're right. Wonder if it would help to have t hose at Fancy Gap? I have literally been unable to see the end of my own car more times than I care to remember. Its a really helpless feeling (sounds like you know!) you cant pull over because you know someone will hit you. You have no idea if youre about to hit someone else...
