Yes it is. I'd post more pics but my front yard has pretty much looked like this since late December so it's not news any more.  I'm actually starting to get used to being snowed in.  I'm just glad I haven't lost power yet.

When it is cold below 40 I have two buck stoves that I heat my house with.  One upstairs and one downstairs.  I need to upgrade my 10  year old heat pump but decided last year I would just use the fireplaces and Wait a bit longer before upgrading.  It's not very energy efficient any more and my electric bill reflect that.
In the beginning of the winter the fires were, cozy.  There was a romantic feel about blankets of snow and watching the fire in the fireplace.
Well I will say after dropping wood on toe and friggin breaking it.  Slamming a piece on my forehead as I struggle around at 2:00 am as I get up to put wood in the fire and having to rush around and cut more wood in between snow storms,  it's not so romantic anymore.  I look forward to upgrading my heat pump this year.  :roflmao:

You may want to think about another heating source.  Some of those with heat pumps are reporting outrageous electric bills.

We are using wood.  Everyone I have talked to said their electric bill has better than doubled.

Hmm.  That's my problem now with my heat pump but I figured it's because it's outdated.  My husband keeps talking about a geothermal heat pump system.  Anybody here have one?

Are you talking about a ground source heat pump? If you decide to go that route check around with some of the contractors previous customers. They are very efficient if installed correctly, but some of the area contractors can't seem to set them up right.

Yes,  the ground source heat pumps are becoming very popular in other areas.  I think they may just now be hitting this area some.  He's been looking into it for a while.
Hubby feels he can do his own install.  He's one of those can pretty much do anything fellers.  Doing his own install would cut way down on the cost.

They've been around for a long time. I was laying brick on a doctors house in Spanishburg back in the eighties and he had one installed then. They made tunnels in the crawl space under his house similar to sections in a coal mine for the air source.
