I found the whole article fascinating, There is more on the page link I put up.  Very interesting.  I personally would rathe see someone smoke a joint as opposed to getting drunk.  You read often about death resulting from alcolhol related incidents.....I don't rcall seeing the same with pot.  I have known folks who have smoked it all their lives and they are as bright today as they were prior to smoking.  So honestly I can't say Willie bothers me.  I don't smoke it because I have no desire to.  However If I wa going to do something to catch a buzz ...that would be my choice.  IMHOP

Now is what you just said truth or myth?   according to this article it is a myth.

I see it as myth from my life experiences.  @#

But then again, my life experiences don't involve hanging out with loser dope-heads spending all my waking moments getting high.

"Almost 5 percent of aging Baby Boomers in the United States are abusing drugs, a new government report shows."

I hardly think that toking a little weed on weekends qualifies as "abusing."  :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

There ... is that better?

Not really, you misquoted the article.

Misquoted the article? I think maybe you better read it again. That is an exact quote of the very first sentence of the article!

Exactly how much dope did you do in your younger days? Maybe way too much?

 :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Just tryin' to have a little fun and see what happens? Sad ... yes it is.

Evidently not nearly as much as you! Here is the exact quote of the sentence....
Quote
That's about 4.3 million adults over the age of 50 who are smoking marijuana, abusing prescription medication and engaging in other illicit drug activity -- a number that far exceeds that of their parents' generation.

Did you smoke so much that you can't distinguish a comma from a period?  :roflmao:

"Although these studies did not answer all remaining questions about marijuana toxicity, they generally supported the idea that marijuana was a relatively safe drug -- not totally free from potential harm, but unlikely to create serious harm for most individual users or society."

"Marijuana is psychoactive because it stimulates certain brain receptors, but it does not produce toxins that kill them (like alcohol), and it does not wear them out as other drugs may. There is no evidence that marijuana use causes brain damage."

"Marijuana use has not been found to act as a gateway drug to the use of harder drugs. Studies show that when the Dutch partially legalized marijuana in the 70's, heroin and cocaine use substantially declined, despite a slight increase in marijuana use."

We've had this discussion before, and I agree that being high on weed is not usually as dangerous as being drunk. That said, it still has plenty of downsides. It'll make you lazy, and it's often an introduction to drug use in general, just to name a couple.

It'll make you lazy

I didn't get two advanced degrees and get to be an officer in a large IT company by being lazy.

Funny that ganja would make you lazy. It actually speeds up your heart rate. At least that is what a  heart doctor (some folks call 'em a cardiologist) from the boomer generation told me.
Best regards,
Duke (bogartin') Jupiter

Slightly off subject:

Is the new large print for us Boomers?

Or did I hit the wrong button on my laptop...again?

ROFLMBO   I don't know if I should  answer that.  Do you like it or dislike it?  Does it need to be smaller?

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_does_weed_make_you_lazy

Maybe it was because I smoked a better grade of weed.  :roflmao: In your case it could be because indica didn't become prevalent until the early 80's when hillbilly's discovered they could grow skunk, which was much more potent, in about a third shorter growing season. That pretty much done away with sativa in the Appalachians. Another side effect of indica in a lot of people was a bit of paranoia while high.
