Lots and lots and lots of homemade bread (from my modified sourdough starter) for gifting to friends and family.

I'm a little late to this topic - could read but not write until a few days ago. I also make my own fruitcake, and the one I make is from a recipe for  dark fruitcake my mother cut out of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and sent to me years ago. Ingredients include nuts and dates and raisins and some candied citron. I was on a nutrition kick and used some whole wheat flour, added a little wheat germ and an extra egg. It was delicious. The next year I decided to follow instructions from the Joy of Cooking re: adding alcohol and storing: punch holes in the baked cake and drizzle  in wine, then wrap in wine-soaked linen or cheesecloth (I think I used dark rum that time), then in aluminum foil, then put in a large tightly covered cake tin with enough powdered sugar to cover cake completely. Which I did. I gave part of it to one of my sisters, and she told me later that she put it in the freezer and forgot about it for several months, and wanted to know what it was. Said they'd just eaten some and it was delicious.
