Lets Take a Break from Politics
« on: June 15, 2009, 03:27:03 PM »
For a second and talk about something more enjoyable.
Anyone got any big travel plans this summer?
This is the first time in about five years that I havent had a half dozen weddings to jet off to. So it will be the usual week by the beach with the family, and thats about it.

I have one planned and am thinking about another. For years now I've been meeting in the Bluefield area, usually in late July, with a small group of friends I've known since grade school. We're scattered all over the country - Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia, Delaware, North Carolina, Florida, me in Northern VA.

I'm also thinking about a trip to a beach - don't know where or when yet, but probably in September. I love the sight and sound and smell of the ocean, and walking on the beach, and the sea food, especially oysters. Lightly breaded, lightly fried oysters...yum!

No big plans here.  Maybe a night or two in Pigeon Forge if we get real saucy.

The big ten year anniversary is coming up in July, so we may take off on the motorcycle sans kids if we can line up an overnight babysitter (which requires slightly more planning and careful attention than a space shuttle launch.)

I am headed off to Surfside beach the week of July fourth with my sons and their families. Always a great time.

sounds like it, Tony. Hope this habit of daily thunderstorms is over by the time you get there. I had hail the size of gumballs last night.

Nothing like a good T-storm at the beach. I could do without the hail though!!

Which beach do you go to Gryph?  Anyone on here ever do the gulf coast of Florida around the Destin area?

Phil Ill take any beach.

But the one we've been going to most often for the past four or five years is Isle of Palms, SC.

I just got back from several days at Myrtle Beach. I did my shopping and dining everywhere but in the city of Myrtle. Since the city council decided they didn't want motorcyclists in their fair town, I figured I'd honor their wishes and spend my money in other parts of the strand.

I like a little place at the Surfside pier called Nibils. Good food in simple surroundings. I also like Nance's at Murrells Inlet. We didn't get to eat there this time, while we were waiting for a table they came out and said their computer had crashed and they were closing. I guess they've forgotten how to use a pad and pencil. Ate at a place in Murrells called Cape May, it was pretty good. The only exception to not eating at Myrtle was on our first night. We stay at South Beach, so we always walk across the street and eat at Damon's after arriving. It wasn't as good this year as in the past.

I have never tried Nibils but have heard good things about it. They say the she crab soup is tops. We move around when it comes to eating, trying new places. Sarah Js in Garden City is a good place to eat for seafood. When I am in the mood for crab legs we go to Crabby Mikes. For our steak night we go to Carolina Roadhouse, what a salad and steak. I cant wait to get back down there.

i have heard a lot of this, and last time I was there, I seen a bunch holding signs to warn others of their new STUPID law...

I've always enjoyed south Myrtle, but it seems they are tired of the swarm... Good for north Myrtle, and Ocean Isle i  guess...
