'Rosie Live' a ratings turkey
« on: November 30, 2008, 06:18:42 PM »
NBC’s attempt to revive the variety show genre hit a serious snag last week as “Rosie Live” drew a small audience on Thanksgiving Eve.
Preliminary Nielsen estimates show that the Rosie O’Donnell-hosted spec, featuring celebrity guests, musical acts and comedy skits involving the likes of Alec Baldwin, Harry Connick Jr. and Liza Minnelli, settled for about 5 million viewers. In the 18-49 demo, it matched ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” as the night’s lowest-rated program on the major nets (1.2 rating/4 share), coming in below what the struggling “Knight Rider” has been averaging in recent weeks.

NBC can’t be pleased with the performance even on the night before Thanksgiving, when many auds are distracted and viewing levels are lower than usual. The net was going to gauge viewer interest before ordering more segs.

For her part, O’Donnell seems resigned to the fact that the experiment ended last week. “There will be no more,” she wrote on her blog. “No ratings. Bad reviews.”

Though all Wednesday shows were on the low side, CBS held up best, led by “Criminal Minds” (prelim 3.4/10 in 18-49, 14.0 million viewers overall) -- the night’s top program.

ABC improved its fortunes in the evening’s final hour with a special “20/20” featuring a Barbara Walters interview with President-elect Barack Obama (prelim 3.0/9 in 18-49, 11.7 million viewers overall).

Wednesday marked the end of the November sweep, in which ABC was expected to prevail by a small margin over CBS in the 18-49 race (Daily Variety, Nov. 26). CBS drew the most viewers overall for the month.

I'm not one bit surprised her show flopped.  What I AM surprised at is that any network would let Rosie headline a show.  I wouldn't watch Rosie dead or live!!!   *yk*   :moon:   :Grinch-icon:   :Skull-Claus-icon:

Rosie and Oprah are both losing their appeal.

that would imply that Rosie at one time had appeal...something arguable.

I, like everyone else, didnt catch her show, so I cant speak to its quality. But cancelled after one showing tells me all I need to know.

I have never seen either show. But this little article from the Washington Post is a little puzzling.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/02/AR2008120203034.html

Winners

"Dancing With the Stars."  (oh, how I hate that show!!!!!!!!)
21 million and 20.7 million viewers (two shows)

"Britney: For the Record."
nearly 4 million viewers
(Be honest, now. How many of you (besides Tony and Po)  *devilish* even knew this was going to be on TV?)

But here's where I get lost....(see the bolded sections above and below)

Losers

Rosie O'Donnell
only about 5 million

Although a very bad sweep number, interestingly, it was far from NBC's worst sweep performance. Twelve NBC telecasts did worse, in fact, than Rosie during the November ratings derby: four episodes of "Crusoe," four episodes of "Lipstick Jungle," three episodes of "My Own Worst Enemy" and one Friday "Deal or No Deal."

Aside from Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters, there is no TV anymore...

What about reruns of "NCIS" and "CSI Miami"?

History Channel?

NBC has lost all credibility over the last few years. In the delusional minds of the folks running the network they mostly likely envisioned countless viewers that share Rosie's off the charts political and life views.  :roflmao:

Rosie was a pretty funny comedienne 20 years ago. I don't know what happened to make her so shrill, vindictive and just plain grouchy. She needs to just mind her own business, stop telling everyone else to do, quit trying to be a political analyst and STOP TELLING EVERYONE SHE'S A LESBIAN. WE KNOW ALREADY!!!  :roflmao:

I don't watch a lot of TV, and most of what I do watch is reruns. I like NCIS - they have a great group of characters - I do look away during the autopsy and other gory scenes. Mostly though, I look for something to make me laugh, like I Love Raymond, Sanford and Son, Seinfeld. I also like Boston Legal - I think it has some of the best and funniest tongue-in-cheek on TV. It takes careful listening and watching to figure some of it out, but it's worth it. No subject is off limits, and on every program they argue at least one current issue. The last one I saw was about the relationship between diabetes, obesity and high fructose corn syrup. There's an interesting on-going low-key "man-love" relationship between Shatner as Denny Crane and James Spader. They're both womanizers, so there's no question of homosexuality. The shows end with the two of them on a high-rise balcony summing up the day and life in general, with an occasional gem: One evening, while discussing women in general and sex and love in particular, Denny had a serious moment and said: It is stunning what we will do, after a certain age, for even a hint of love."

Just not much of a market for a big mouthed radical lesbian.  NBC will be asking for a bailout.

Maybe being "outed" made her mad and mean. If I remember correctly it was not her choice to make her sex life public.

Rosie lost popularity with the Tom Selleck ordeal and she's just continued to run her big mouth.  Ellen D, although of the same sexual persuasion, doesn't seem to offend people.

I don't know anything about "the Tom Selleck ordeal." My point was that before Rosie was outed, she was "a person." She had a career and at least one good part in a movie (Sleepless in Seattle, where she was the perfect foil for Meg Ryan). Now she's "a lesbian," defined by what she does with whom in the bedroom. She's overweight, awkward, and not pretty like Ellen and Anne Heche (Ellen's former lover), and obviously resents the invasion of her privacy. I feel sorry for her.
