Do you not believe in answering questions? :1:  I swear you remind me of a poster who could twist things completely around at whim.  Did you take lessons from her? *stars&

Why are so impatient?

Impatient?  If I was counting on your answers to make a living, I would starve to death. *18*

Good thing you stored extra body fat then.

It still wouldn't last that long!

Isnm3 this a bit like saying "Do you like peanut butter and jelly" or "PB&J"?

"X" is the Greek letter "Chi" the first letter of Khristos (sp?)

It's the same difference. :)

Anyway, to the topic.

Two things.

1)  The holiday is actually the celebration of the Winter Solstice - far more ancient than x-tianity.

2)  Even if you accept the myth of the christ/jesus, known facts about everyday life during the period surrounding the tale(s) surviving in the bible point out that the claimed birth date that forms the basis for the x-tian holiday is wrong.

Perhaps a lil' Sunday go-ta-meeting would do you good  :39:

There is nothing in the New Testament about the actual date. It is true that early Christians in Rome adopted the holiday of Saturnalia as a time for their own celebrations. That way, they could celebrate their holiday without suspicion from the Romans.

The Catholic Church has always allowed inhabitants the freedom to practice their festivals, and has mixed cultures with the spread of Christianity. This is the same ideaology that allowed the Romans to conquer and control a vast area for 2000 years.
